This (below) is a corny tune but it actually made number one in the UK charts in 1974. It’s Ray Stevens’ “The Streak”. You hardly ever hear it on the radio these days, so Stephen Tall has provided a good excuse to wheel it out here.
In the next fortnight, at an unspecified time known only to a BBC film crew and the duty sergeant at Westminster nick, Stephen will be running naked down Whitehall as he promised to do some years ago if the Lib Dems were reduced to 24 seats in the Commons. We were reduced to eight seats, so technically he had a cop out, but the offer of Kelvin MacKenzie to give £5,000 to a charity of Stephen’s choice if he does the deed, has induced Stephen to do it.
Unfortunately, this is not the Full Monty though, girls and boys, and as we speak a sub-committee is designing a fig leaf large enough to cover up the substantial Tall family inheritance.
But here’s the rub. We can’t let Kelvin MacKenzie think his generosity isn’t matched. We’ve got to raise an equal amount.
So please donate to Stephen’s favoured charity, Médecins Sans Frontières (UK) (translated: Trust Stephen to choose a charity with not only one but two accents), by going to his JustGiving page here.
