Seven years – the gap between "Hurrah for the Blackshirts" in the Mail and Ralph Miliband's diary entry

On Newsnight this week, Jon Steafel, Deputy Editor of the Daily Mail, rejected a reference to the Lord Rothermere “Hurrah for the Blackshirts” article in the Daily Mail, saying that a piece from 80 years ago was not relevant.

Hold on a cotton picking momento.

The Mail ran the “Hurrah for the Blackshirts” article in 1934.

Ralph Miliband wrote the diary entry, on which the Mail mainly based its “The man who hated Britain” piece, in 1941.

Just seven years later.
