Thames Valley Police has arrested a man on suspicion of murder after the death of a man in Newbury yesterday evening (19/06).
Officers were called to an address in The Nightingales, Newbury, by South Central Ambulance Service who was attending following a report of a seriously injured man. The man, who had been the victim of a serious assault, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 41-year-old man has been arrested near the scene on suspicion of murder. He is currently in police custody.
Det Ch Insp Ian Hunter said: “A thorough search of the area lead to the arrest of the suspect who is now in police custody. I would like to reassure the public that we believe this to be an isolated incident.”
Supt Robin Rickard, LPA Commander – West Berkshire, said “We would like to thank the public for their cooperation during our investigation. Incidents such as these, while rare, can be distressing and disruptive to the local community.
“Our neighbourhood policing teams will be carrying out extra patrols in the area to address any concerns residents may have a provide reassurance.”

A man has died following a “serious assault” in Berkshire, police say.
He was found seriously injured at The Nightingales, Newbury and was later pronounced dead at the scene on Wednesday evening.
Thames Valley Police launched a murder investigation and said it believed the assault was “an isolated incident”.
Det Ch Insp Ian Hunter said a search of the area was under way. Anyone with information is urged to contact the force.
Note: The Nightingales is in Newbury, not Greenham. The parish boundary is Pyle Hill, which is east of the Nightingales.
